Sample Type and Volume: 

  • Uses endocervical and cervical specimens.
  • Requires 50 ng DNA / reaction

Clinical Relevance: 

  • Candida species are normal flora of the skin and vagina, and are not sexually transmitted pathogens.
  • Condition in women caused by an overgrowth of the normal flora found on the skin or in the vagina.
  • Affects most females during lifetime.
  • Second most common cause of vaginitis.

Clinical Utility: 

  • Simultaneous detection of multiple microorganisms associated with various sexually transmitted infections and vaginitis facilitates  immediate treatment of patient.
